I have given the title “Monokataru” to this exhibition of works. The word “monogatari” means a story told by a thing (a sign, a thing of possession, or a specter of a thing). Originally, I believe that a story is something that comes to you or is possessed by you. My work is the place where stories are born, before they take form, before they are established as characters. In my painting, I learn more from literary works than from existing paintings. Literature such as Nobuo Orikuchi and Garcia Marquez, who is known as “magic realism,” are my source of inspiration for my paintings. I am pleased to announce that I will be exhibiting my work at Keibunsha's gallery, Unferre. It is a great pleasure for me to have my works in a space filled with books and literature. I would be happy if we could discuss literature someday.

今回の作品展に「モノカタル」というタイトルをつけました。 物語とはモノ(気配や憑き物の物、物の怪)が語ることの意味です。 元来物語とは訪れてくるもの、憑依してくるものであったと思います。 僕の作品は形になる前の、文字として定着する前の、物語が生まれる場所なのです。 絵画制作においては既存の絵画よりも文学作品に多くを学んでいます。 折口信夫やマジックリアリズムと呼ばれるガルシア・マルケスなど、文学が絵を描く糧となってい るようです。 今回恵文社さんのギャラリー、アンフェールで作品を展示させていただくことになりました。 本が、文学があふれる空間に僕の作品があることは、この上ない喜びでもあります。 いつか文学について語り合うことができたら幸せです。
